March 08, 2013  |  Difficulty: Medium

install the BlockIt© add-on and block the websites you want.

There are many threats on the Internet and people are always looking for protections against them. Parents want to have a reliable parental control installed to avoid unpleasant troubles, employers want monitoring tools, and the list goes on.

For Google ChromeSM users, there is a simple solution called BlockIt©. This Internet browser security extension restricts access to certain websites so dangerous or inappropriate content cannot be reached. The instructions below explain how to install the BlockIt© add-on and block the websites you want.

Install and set up the BlockIt© add-on:

  1. Launch Google ChromeSM and go to the BlockIt© page on the Softpedia®.
  2. Download the latest BlockIt© version.
  3. When asked if you want to add BlockIt© to your browser, add it.
  4. In the URL/address bar type “chrome://extensions” and press enter.
  5. Click on the “Options” button.
  6. You will be redirected to the password page of the extension. The first time you use it, you don’t enter a password because you don’t have one. Just click on the “Login” button.
  7. Now enter the name of the websites you want to block and click on the “Block” button.
You can type in a list of addresses and block them all at once by clicking on the “Block All” button.
  8. Now set a password so no one can unblock your settings by clicking the “Change Access Password” section located at the bottom of the page.
  9. Once completed, you may logout. Any addresses you entered will now be blocked.
