How Do I Find My MAC Address

April 01, 2014  |  Difficulty: Easy

MAC address of your LAN adaptor

A MAC (Media Access Control) address is a unique number, originally written by a manufacturer, which identifies the network adaptor installed on your computer. The MAC address is composed of up to 6 pairs of characters, separated by colons. You may need this number to successfully connect to a network through a router or Internet Service Provider. If you need to know the MAC address of your LAN adaptor, the instructions below explain how to find it.

Finding Your MAC address:

  1. Press “winkey + R” and type “cmd” into the run box. Then, press enter.
  2. Type “ipconfig /all” command and press enter.
  3. Now you will see all the information about your connection. The “Physical Address” item in the list represents your MAC address.

If you are having trouble executing the “ipconfig” command, find the “System 32” folder by:

  1. Pressing the "winkey + R".
  2. Typing "cmd" in the run box and then hitting enter.
  3. Next, type in "cd /" and hit enter.
  4. Type in “cd windows” and enter.
  5. Type in “cd system32” and enter.
  6. Now, type in “ipconfig” and enter.

Your IP address should now be displayed. To exit the command window, just click the “X” in the top right-hand corner to close the window.
