indows 8.1 so that it starts directly from the desktop

One new feature in the Windows® 8.1 (Windows® Blue) update is the ability to boot the software directly from the desktop environment without ever seeing the Windows® 8 tiles. This feature is a bit hidden in the system settings and many users have a hard time finding it. The instructions below explain how you can easily set Windows 8.1 so that it starts directly from the desktop and skips booting to the original Windows® 8 tile environment.

Boot from desktop in Windows® 8.1:

  1. If you are in the Windows® tile environment, launch the “Desktop” tile.
  2. Right-click on the taskbar and select “Properties”.
  3. Switch to the “Navigation” tab.
  4. Check the  box next to “When I sign in or close all applications on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start” located in the “Start screen” section.
  5. Click “OK” button.
