how to use GMail® Drive for Gmail® storage

Gmail® is a popular mailbox service provided by Google® that offers accounts with 7.5GB storage capacity. Typical users hardly ever fill this capacity with their data or emails. Software companies and developers see this as an opportunity to create applications that can use this space for storing files online as an external disk. However, you must log in to your Google® account via this software. This article describes the GMail® Drive application that is very simple to use. However, there are Gmail® rules that require all account users to only use the Google® interface. Since GMail® Drive is not programmed by Google® it doesn’t conform to the rules. Despite this, the software is still very handy to use. If you choose to use it, read the instructions below on how to download and install it.

GMail® Drive instructions:

  1. Open your Internet browser and go to the GMail® Drive shell extension webpage.
  2. Scroll down the page until you get to the “Download Files” section and click on the “GMail Drive v1.0.18 - download site #1 (Major Geeks)” link and download the zipped file from the Major Geeks server.
  3. Unzip the downloaded file and launch the “Setup.exe” file.
  4. Close the opened information windows and the application will install.
  5. Go to “Start > My Computer/Computer > GMail Drive” the login pop up window should open.
  6. Enter the username and password of your Gmail® account and click on the “OK” button.
  7. The GMail® Drive will start working as a external disk. You can copy, delete, or rename the files there, etc. To access the files on another computer, you have to install the GMail® Drive on it the same way.

Tips and Tricks:

  • You can tick the “Auto Login” checkbox in the login window so you don’t have to fill in your account information every time you open the GMail® Drive.
